On May 22, Governor Kay Ivey issued an amended statewide Safer-at-Home order that will be in effect until 5:00 p.m. July 3.
We are pleased to announce that some United Ability programs have reopened on-site with additional safety guidelines in place, however other programs will remain remote until it deemed safe to return to the United Ability campus.
United Ability program updates as of Friday, June 5:
- Gone for Good has resumed daily operations and is operating at full capacity providing recurring and one-time document pick-up services. Drop-off services have also resumed Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m.- noon. (Social distance standards are enforced) For service information call 205.943.5252
- Ability Clinic Medical Services is seeing more patients on-site and is accepting new patients. Telemedicine appointments will continue. To make an appointment with Dr. Charlie Law, call 205.944.3944
- Ability Clinic Outpatient Therapy will reopen on Monday, June 8 and work within space and social distancing capacities and other guidelines. To make an appointment for Speech, Occupational, or Physical Therapy, please call 205.944.3944. Teletherapy will continue.
- Employment Services continues to connect with businesses as they reopen to procure summer training sites and match job-seeking adults with potential employers. For more information, call 205.944.3979
- Hand In Hand Early Learning Program reopened June 1 at a reduced capacity following the mandated Jefferson County Department of Health guidelines requiring 12 or fewer children per classroom, for details call 205.944.3902.
- LINCPoint Adult Day remains closed until at least June 30 per a mandate from The Alabama Department of Mental Health. United Ability will continue virtual teletherapy for Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy as well as virtual training, weekly telephone calls, and drive-by staff visits.
All remaining United Ability programs will continue to work remotely until further guidance is provided to dictate otherwise.

Based on this information, United Ability’s Leadership has begun to reopen some additional programs and updated its timeline for the safe reopening of other on-site programs, however other programs will remain remote until it deemed safe to return to the United Ability campus.

Governor Kay Ivey recently issued an amended statewide Safer-at- Home order that will be in effect until 5:00 p.m. May 22. Based on this information, United Ability’s Leadership has updated its timeline for safely reopening programs.
Some programs have resumed limited on-site services adhering to strict CDC Guidelines, while other programs will remain remote until it deemed safe to return to the United Ability campus.
United Ability program updates as of May 18:
- Gone for Good has resumed daily operations, providing recurring and one one-time document and e-waste pick-up. Drop-off services have also resumed with new hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m.- noon. (Social distance standards are enforced) For service information call 205.943.5252
- Ability Clinic Medical Services is seeing patients with essential needs or as requested by families. Telemedicine appointments will continue. To make an appointment with Dr. Charlie Law, call 205.944.3944
- Ability Clinic Outpatient Therapy will reopen on June 8 and work within space and social distancing capacities and other guidelines. To make an appointment for Speech, Occupational, or Physical Therapy, please call 205.944.3944. Teletherapy will continue.
- Employment Services is working with businesses as they reopen. The support needed for individuals to be placed and supported in the community has increased, and the staff is working, adhering to all guidelines provided by the business in which they are supporting the participant. We will continue to monitor the most updated information as provided by the CDC and post updates regarding our program operations as listed below. Please email the program director with questions or for more details.
The Ability Clinic, Dr. Law and Outpatient Therapy will be adjusting our hours of operation and access of care for the upcoming week. If you are currently scheduled to see Dr. Law, or one of our outpatient therapists, we will contact you directly to discuss your needs and individualize your treatment plans. The Employment Services Department, this includes Transition Services, Supported Employment, Project SEARCH, and Youth Employment will be working remotely while United Ability is closed.
